Westmuir

Westmuir Community Development Trust

Is the name of the umbrella charity that looks after the key communal areas of the Village. 5 Local residents are trustees that manage the projects, fundraising and provide annual reports to Scotland's Charity Commission.

History of the WCDT

Over 25 years ago, a group of villagers formed the Trust & then were successful in their application for a substantial grant to develop the woodland into an area of an accessible network of paths...

Subsequent grants made sure the paths were developed to be accessible for all users.

Fundraising

We raise funds in 2 ways:

  • The Christmas Raffle relies on residents to donate items for the gift hampers & sell tickets to the surrounding community—the income pays for running costs like insurance.
  • Grants applied for are usually for specified projects - e.g., path improvement and benches/seating areas.

Website & Social Media

The website was set up to give us a central place to access information about Westmuir and communicate any fundraising events and recruit volunteers for community projects.

Westmuir Woodland

Has been a wonderful space for everyone to access and enjoy the peace, tranquility, and biodiversity on offer - both flora and fauna.

Scotland's Finest Wood: Awarded in the small community woodland category - a huge achievement due to the quality of the other woodlands in the category.

Angus Local Nature Conservation Site: Designated due to our unique habitat and biodiversity.

Volunteers

Volunteers are what makes everything happen, from fundraising, to creating content on socials & website, to being a trustee or helping out on various projects, we are always looking for your skills to support the village and the communal areas to develop for future generations.
